Indecent Exposure...

"Every photographed object is simply the trace left behind by the disappearance of everything else. It’s almost the perfect crime, an almost total final solution, as it were, for a world which projects only the illusion of this or that object, which the photograph then transforms – absent from the rest of the world, withdrawn from the rest of the world – into an unseizable enigma. From the height of this enigmatic object – which, as a radical exception, bears no resemblances, and has no meaning – one has an unobstructed vision of the world."
— Jean Baudrillard, "The Art of Disappearance”, Art and Artifact

New toy, Nikon D40.

Lots to learn.

Very cool man. Congrats on the instant-gratification-gadget. The nice thing about these cameras is that you can start out on full-auto ("green box" mode on my camera), and move to the more manual stuff at your own speed. I think you'll enjoy the new camera, and the process.

Yeah, ha, full-auto is where I am now. Took the guide with me on my HF trip over the weekend and guess what?...I inadvertantly packed the Spanish version! English one stayed home unopened; its primo, however, didn't make the return trip.

Ha! Dig around on the web and you may be able to find a PDF version of the (US) manual. The paper version is nice to carry around, but if you want to find a specific word/subject, searching a PDF is quicker than the ol' TOC or index.

So are you gonna do a write-up of the HF trip? I (and your other fans) would like to hear how that went.

Thanks for the info on the manual.

Yep, I'll post a write-up tonight, complete with stunningly mediocre pix from the new camera.

I will say that I already managed to lose the dust cover that overlays the gaping maw where the lens normally fits...a victim of my haste and general absentmindedness.

Thanks go out to you and Butch, without whose encouragement and opinions I would be $600 richer, ha.
