Along the Riverside Route...

The Jefferson Memorial, looking a bit otherworldly in the gloaming. What was the word Lovecraft loved to use so often...eldritch? Yeah, maybe.

I took this pic on the commute home from work last week. It had been raining earlier in the day, and the residual cumulous clouds took on a tinge of purple-pink under influence of a fading sunset. A layer of ice-coated snow clung stubbornly to the ground all around, resolute beneath the afternoon's steady pummeling of raindrops, making my balancing act in bike shoes on the slippery parapet a bit dicey as I steadied the camera.

It's easy to forget how fortunate I am to have such views every day on my ride to and from work...

Autosuggestion...

...leave it at home.

Tomorrow—the first day of fall—is Car-free Day in DC.

Seriously, it's one day...balls up a wee bit and leave that shit at home. The weather couldn't be better, Lady Nature will love you for it—as will your lagging metabolism—and who knows? You might just meet someone special out there on two wheels and experience a seedy assignation in the shifting shadows of a city park, as an early-autumn sun—sole witness to your unseemly behavior—slowly sinks unseen behind rooftops in the dusky distance. One can hope, right?

One thing's for sure, it ain't gonna happen with your ass planted firmly in a car seat, encased in glass like a piece of ancient pottery or a pinned specimen.

Now there's something to think about, yes?

Do something different. Be revolutionary. Be free.

Ride your bike.

A Ride of Monumental Proportions...

Hmm...this event is very tempting. I mean, pedal from DC to Baltimore with a phalanx of Charm City cyclers—just one set of wheels among many—indulge with like-minded individuals in the fruits of the alcoholic paradise that is Fells Point, then wobble back en masse with the DC locals, bathed in the last rays of waning sunlight.

Sounds like an excellent opportunity for a timely showing of cycling solidarity.

Tip o' the hat to Jon Baler for the link.
